Dr. Stephen Guice received his B.A. (Honors, Phi Beta Kappa), M.A., and Ph.D. in Linguistics from Michigan State University. He taught applied and theoretical Linguistics before joining the U.S. Department of State. He also served two years as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Iasi, Romania. In his 20-year career in the State Department, he served extensively in Central Asia and the Caucasus. He was last the Deputy Chief of Mission in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, but also served as the Head of the Office of Policy and Evaluation at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, as the Deputy Director of Press and Public Diplomacy for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, and as Public Affairs Counsellor in Baku, Azerbaijan and Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
